Take part in a volunteer project while learning English!

We have diverse volunteer projects on offer which will enable you to make a positive impact and promote cross-cultural exchange. Our volunteer projects will provide you with an opportunity to meet with locals, improve your English skills and add value to your CV!

Volunteer Placement fee $200.

Available at IH Byron Bay campus.

Tourism and Aboriginal Culture

Get familiar with Byron’s locals by volunteering at the beautiful lighthouse as a tourist guide. You will work in shifts in the information centre and/or the lighthouse museum, and will also get the opportunity to work with the Aboriginal and marine-life staff.

Marine Life Protection

Volunteer as a Dolphin Ambassador and educate the community about our ocean. You will participate in beach clean-ups, work at a market stall, and organize surveys and events about marine life protection.

Permaculture

If you are passionate about healthy and organic food, volunteering at the community gardens close to Byron Bay is the right project for you! As a volunteer you will be helping with the garden, and get the possibility to join interesting events and workshops.

Social Work

If you thrive on helping others, then you will enjoy working in an aged care facility. As a volunteer, you will be accompanying the residents to sharing your interests and hobbies, be it cards, crafting, gardening, computer games or literature. You can also work to support the “Food for All” initiative and help provide a meal to anyone in need.

Animal Welfare

A substantial part of the role of a koala carer is cleaning their enclosure and replacing leaf and water for them. The volunteers also make observations about the koalas, and with dedication and appropriate training, they can assist with administering medications and supplements.
